2484 ARTICLE 11.

regulation of the keep and sale of any and all food products offered for
sale within the corporate limits of Frederick, or intended for consumption
therein, and to make, and from time to time, alter such regulations in re-
gard to the keep and sale of any and all food products, as it may deem
necessary and proper, to protect the public health, and to cause any im-
pure, adulterated, sophisticated or unwholesome food products of any
kind offered for sale, or intended for consumption, within the corporate
limits of Frederick to be confiscated and destroyed, and to provide by fine
of not more than one hundred dollars, o:r imprisonment in the jail of Fred-
erick County for not more than ninety days, for each offense, for the pun-
ishment of violations against such regulations and ordinances; provided,
however, that the provisions of this sub-title shall not apply to any food
products which have been prepared, kept, sold or distributed, under the
provisions of any law heretofore or hereafter passed by the Congress of
the United States or by the State of Maryland.

LIGHTING SYSTEM.

235. The Mayor and Aldermen of Frederick are hereby authorized
and empowered to erect lamps in any of the streets, lanes, alleys or public
places of the city, and to light the same at the expense of the city, or to
contract, for a period not exceeding tea years, for the lighting of the
whole, or any part thereof, with any individual, firm or corporation, now,
or hereafter, engaged in manufacturing, distributing, supplying and sell-
ing, electric light or power, gas or any other kind of light, which contract
shall be subject to the approval of the Public Service Commission of
Maryland; and it is further authorized and empowered to manufacture,
furnish, supply and sell commercial current, electric light and power, gas
or any other kind of light, to all persors, firms and corporations within
the police limits of Frederick, upon such terms and conditions as it may
agree upon with the consumers thereof: subject to the conditions herein-
after set forth.

236. The Mayor and Aldermen of Frederick is hereby authorized
and empowered for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this Act
to repair, equip, improve or rebuild its lighting plant, and to purchase
or lease such land as it shall think proper and to erect buildings thereon,
and for that purpose to expend such sum or sums of money as it shall
think proper and to raise any such amounts, either by levying taxes, issu-
ing notes or obligations, or by issuing serial bonds in which event the
Mayor and Aldermen of Frederick is hereby authorized and empowered
to do all things necessary for the issuance of such bonds and their offer-
ing for sale under the most advantageous conditions, is authorized and
required to levy the necessary taxes upon the taxable property of the Cor-
poration of Frederick to provide for the payment of the interest on such
