2474 ARTICLE 11.

and the orders and resolution of said Board of Aldermen shall direct,
then the said obligation to be void, otherwise to be and remain in full
force and virtue in law. The City Register shall have the keeping of
the common seal of the corporation which shall be circular in form and
shall have engraved around its margin the words "Corporation of Fred-
erick, Maryland," and upon its center an eagle. The corporation seal
shall be used by the City Register in all cases provided by ordinance, and
in all other cases where a corporate seal may be necessary. All fees by
him received shall be paid over to the Mayor and Aldermen of Fred-
erick; he shall receive and take into his charge all moneys of the corpora-
tion, whether arising from fines, licenses, taxes and forfeitures, or in any
other way whatsoever and deposit the same in bank, in the name of the
Mayor and Aldermen of Frederick, to be disbursed only in payment of
claims against the said corporation properly allowed, and for such pur-
pose as may be directed by the Board of Aldermen, on warrants signed
by himself and countersigned by the Mayor. He shall keep a bank book
to contain regular entries of all moneys by him deposited, and of all checks
by him drawn; he shall keep a regular and fair account in a book or
books, in folio, of all moneys by him received and expended on account
of said corporation and shall semi-annually and oftener, if required by
the Mayor or Board of Aldermen, file with him, or them, a particular
account of his receipts and expenditures, recorded in a book kept specially
for that purpose. He shall, when 'required by ordinance, deposit all
moneys received by him as City Register and tax collector, in such bank
or financial institution, subject to the approval of the Board of Alder-
men, as shall pay the highest annual rate of interest on said deposit, as
provided in said ordinance. In addition to the aforegoing the City Reg-
ister shall perform such other duties pertaining to the proper adminis-
tration of his duties of his office as may be required of him by ordinance
of the city. In the event of any wilful neglect of duty, or in case of any
misconduct, misbehavior or malfeasance in office, upon conviction hereof
in the Circuit Court of Frederick County, or in any other court having
jurisdiction in the premises, his office shall be deemed to be vacant, and
said Board of Aldermen shall thereupon appoint some other person having
the qualifications hereinbefore prescribed for the office of City Register,
to fill out the unexpired term of the person so convicted. The term of
office of the person so elected City Register shall begin on the first Mon-
day next after his election and he shall continue in office until his suc-
cessor in office is duly elected and qualified.

217. It shall be the duty of said city register, as tax collector, with-
out further compensation, to complete the collection of all taxes levied
during his term of office, and he shall be allowed the term of one year
after the expiration of the term for which he was elected to collect in the
manner provided by the charter and ordinances of the Mayor and Alder-
men of Frederick all balances due on taxes levied during his term of office
in the same manner as he could collect the same during his term of office.
