2472 ARTICLE 11.

city one year, and shall be assessed on the tax books of said city to the
amount of three hundred dollars.

210. The term of office of the Aldermen elected at the regular election
shall begin on the first Monday next after their election, on which day
their first meeting shall be held, and shall continue in office until their
successors in office are duly elected a ad qualified. The Mayor of said
city may convene the Board of Aldermen whenever and as often as it
may appear to him that the interests of the city require their delibera-
tion. Provided, however, that the Mayor shall be required to call a special
meeting of the Board of Aldermen whenever requested in writing by four
Aldermen.

211. A majority of the Aldermen shall be a quorum to do business,
but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day.

213. The Mayor, by virtue of his office, shall be the president of the
Board of Aldermen, and shall preside at all meetings of said board; he
may debate all questions before said beard, and in case of a tie, except
in the passage of ordinances, he shall have the deciding vote; he shall
have the power to veto any order, resolution or ordinance incurring any
debt, or paying out, or in any way appropriating any money; such order,
resolution or ordinance, when passed by the Board of Aldermen, shall
be sent to the Mayor for his approval; the Mayor may return the same
with his approval or disapproval, to the same meeting at which it was
passed, or he may have until the next regular or special meeting, which-
ever shall first occur, to return the same; if returned with his disapproval
it shall not become a law unless subsequently, at the meeting to which it
was returned, or the next regular or special meeting thereafter, it be
passed by a four-fifths vote of the board; if not returned at all to the
next regular or special meeting of the board, whichever shall first occur,
it shall become a law notwithstanding his falure to approve. The Board
of Aldermen shall choose one of their number president, pro tempore, to
remain such during his term as Alderman, who shall qualify as such
before the Mayor, but who shall receive no compensation as such, further
than his compensation as one of the Board of Aldermen. In the absence
of the Mayor, the president pro tempore of the Board of Aldermen, shall
preside over the meetings of the said board, and in the case of the tem-
