porate signing the same, and a certified copy of the record may be offered
in evidence as well as the original.
He shall hold office for two. years from date of his bond herein required,
or until his successor is appointed and has qualified, and his compensa-
tion shall be fixed by the Mayor and Council.
He shall have full power to enforce payment of all taxes levied by the
Council, by suit or by sale or otherwise, as hereinafter provided, and to
convey title to any real or personal property sold by him for non-payment
of taxes.

38. In September in the year nineteen hundred and sixteen, and in
September of every year thereafter, the Mayor, with the advice and con-
sent of the Council, shall appoint a competent accountant, whose duty it
shall be to make a careful examination of the books, accounts, statements
and such other matters relating to the office and affairs of the town clerk,
treasurer and collector as the said Mayor and Council may direct. Said
accountant shall be called the city auditor, and shall before he enters upon
the duties of his office, take and subscribe before the Mayor an oath that he
will well and truly audit the books, accounts, statements, etc., of said town
and of said town clerk, treasurer, and collector, and give a true report of
the same to the best of his ability, and for his services he shall receive
such sum, not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100.00), as the said Mayor
and Council may fix. He shall report in writing to the Mayor and Council
the result of his examination, as soon after he has made the same as may
be practicable.
POLICE JUSTICE.

39. The police justice of the town of Brunswick, who shall also be the
justice of the peace of Election District No. 25, in Frederick County,
or the Mayor of said town, in the absence, sickness or other disability of
said police justice, shall hold his court in the municipal building for the
purpose of preserving the peace of said town and for other municipal
purposes, shall have full power and authority to hear, determine and pass
sentence in all cases for violations of any ordinance of said town and
may impose fines for such violations, and in default of the payment of
such fines and the costs of prosecution, may imprison the offender in the
town lockup or county jail, but not exceeding one day for every dollar
of fine imposed, and not exceeding sixty days in all; and for the purpose
of carrying out the police powers herein granted, the person, before whom
any case for the violation of an ordinance of said town shall be tried as
aforesaid, shall have the power to issue warrants commanding the chief
bailiff of said corporation, or any deputy bailiff thereof, to arrest any
person charged with violating any of the ordinances of said town and
