232 ARTICLE 1.
they shall go before a Justice of the Peace for Allegany County, and make
oath in due form of law that they will only permit the registration of such
person or persons as are entitled under the provisions of this Act, to be
registered as voters of the Town of Westernport.
1924, ch. 82.
645. Whenever in the opinion of the Mayor and Commissioners of
Westernport a new general registration of all of the qualified voters of
said town is desirable, then the advertisement and notice of registration
provided to be given in Section 644 shall clearly state the fact that all
qualified voters are required to again register, whereupon the old regis-
tration lists shall be voided. At all other times the annual registration
on the first Monday in February in each year shall be for the purpose of
registering only additional qualified voters upon the lists maintained by
the said Mayor and Commissioners; but whenever a general registration
of voters is held under this section, the officers of registration in addition
to sitting for this purpose on the first Monday in February, shall sit for
such additional day or days as are designated by the said Mayor and
Commissioners and specified in such public notice; and, whenever neces-
sary, in the opinion of said Mayor and Commissioners, they may provide
for the continuation of the annual registration during the next ensuing
day after the first Monday in February, the public notice of registration
so stating. It shall be the duty of such registration officers, in addition
to registering voters, to examine and check over the registration lists, and
they shall make a list of those who in their opinion may be disqualified
thereon as voters, and they shall deliver such list to the Clerk of the Town,
who shall forthwith send written notice by mail to all persons whose
names are so given to him, notifying them to be and appear before the
officers of registration on the next succeeding revision day to show cause,
if any they have, why their names should not be stricken from the lists
of qualified voters of the Town of Westernport, and the said Clerk shall
certify to the registration officers, under oath, the fact that such notices
were mailed and the time thereof. For the purpose of revising such
registration lists and striking therefrom the names of those no longer
qualified to vote in said town, the registration officers shall sit one day
each year, known as Revision Day, to be selected by the Mayor and Com-
missioners of Westernport and which shall be not less than five days
prior to the annual election. Notice of the same shall be given at the
same time and manner as notice of the preceding registration sitting.
It will be the duty of the registration officers on such day to strike from
the lists all those to whom notice has been mailed by the Clerk as or-
dered, who do not appear before them at that time and show cause why
their names should not be stricken off the lists of qualified voters or who
have not otherwise shown to them their qualification as qualified voters,
provided such notice has been mailed by the Clerk at least ten days before
Revision Day. At the time of holding any election in said Town of
Westernport the officers of registration shall attend with and have in
charge the lists of qualified voters, registered and revised by them.
