2228 ARTICLE 10.

INDEXES.
1892, ch. 623, sec. 1.

138. The Clerk of the Circuit Court for Dorchester County, under
the supervision of the judges of the said court, is hereby authorized and
required, to make or have made a general index of all the land records of
said county for which a general index has not been heretofore made, and
to continue such general index, as new Libers, or volumes, are added to
said land records, and the said clerk stall enter on said general index the
name or names of both the grantor, and grantee, mortgagor or mortgagee,
vendor or vendee in every deed, mortgage or other instruments conveying
lands or interest in land or affecting the title thereto, so that there shall
be one general index, beginning with the grantors, mortgagors and ven-
dors, and one beginning with the grantees, mortgagees and vendors.

139. The County Commissioners of said county, shall yearly levy and
pay unto the said clerk the sum of nine cents for each deed, mortgage, or
other instrument required to be indexed as aforesaid, and they shall pay
for the necessary index records.

140. The said clerk shall yearly make out a true and correct statement
of the services rendered under the aforegoing sub-sections, and shall ap-
pend thereto an affidavit setting forth the correctness of such statement,
and this statement he shall present to the County Commissioners of said
county at least ten days before the making of the annual levy out of which
said charges are to be paid.

141. The Clerk of the Circuit Court of Dorchester County is hereby
authorized to re-index the Judgment Records of Dorchester County, from
the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and two, up to and
including said records of the year one thousand nine hundred and four-
teen, and Judgment Records in the future; and the County Commission-
ers of Dorchester County are hereby required to appropriate for the use
of the said clerk for such indexing purposes, the sum of three hundred dol-
lars ($300), or as much thereof as may be necessary each year for the
years one thousand nine hundred and fourteen and one thousand nine
hundred and fifteen, but no more than three hundred dollars ($300) is to
be appropriated out of the levy of any one year therefor.
