220 ARTICLE 1.

TEACHERS—SALARIES.

1908, ch. 688 (p. 341).

606. The County School Commissioners of Allegany County are here-
by authorized and directed to increase by the amount of ten per cent, the
aggregate amount.of money by said Board appropriated to the payment of

salaries of school teachers in said county, and the said Board is hereby
vested with a discretion to apportion such increase of salary among the
several classes of school teachers in a ratio which to said Board may seem
just, awarding the larger precentage of increase to those who receive the
lowest salaries. The County Commissioners of Allegany County are here-
by authorized and directed to levy on the assessable property of Allegany
County a sum sufficient to cover the increase of salaries of said school
teachers, herein provided for, and to collect the same as other taxes.*

607. No assistant teacher regularly employed in the Public Schools of
Allegany County having a third grade, first class, State elementary certifi-

cate, shall receive an annual salary of less than eight hundred and sixteen
dollars ($816.00) ; provided, if such teacher has taught one year, such
teacher shall receive an annual salary of not less than eight hundred fifty-
two dollars ($852.00), and provided further, if such teacher has taught
two years, such teacher shall receive an annual salary of not less than nine
hundred dollars ($900.00), and provided further, if such teacher has
taught three years, such teacher shall receive an annual salary of not less
than nine hundred sixty dollars ($960.00), and provided further, if such
teacher has taught four, five, or six years, such teacher shall receive an
annual salary of not less than ten hundred thirty-two dollars ($1,032.00),
and provided further, if such teacher has taught seven years or over, such
teacher shall receive an annual salary of not less than eleven hundred six-
teen dollars ($1,116.00).

608. No assistant teacher, having a second grade, first class, State

elementary certificate, shall receive an annual salary of less than eight hun-
dred and sixty-four dollars ($864.00) ; provided, if such teacher has taught
one year, such teacher shall receive an annual salary of not less than nine
hundred dollars ($900.00), and provided further, if such teacher has
taught two years, such teacher shall receive an annual salary of not less
than nine hundred forty-eight dollars ($948.00), and provided further,
if such teacher has taught three years, such teacher shall receive an annual
salary of not less than one thousand eight dollars ($1,008.00), and pro-
vided further, if such teacher has taught four, five or six years, such
teacher shall, receive an annual salary of not less than one thousand eighty
dollars ($1,080.00), and provided further, if such teacher has taught seven
