janitor, shall raise or cause to be raised said American flag at the opening
of school and lower same at the closing of school on each and every school
day.

577. Each and every janitor or principal failing to raise and lower the
flag as provided by Section 576 of this Act shall be guilty of a misde-
meanor, and upon conviction thereof before any justice of the peace of
Allegany County or the Circuit Court for Allegany County shall be fined
mot more than ten dollars and not less than one dollar.

578. Free evening schools shall be opened in Allegany County for the
study of the rudimentary branches of knowledge, including reading, writ-
ing and arithmetic and such advanced studies as may be necessary.

579. The School Commissioners in said Allegany County are author-
ized to provide from the now existing day schools such teachers as may be
requisite for such evening schools, and students therein shall be males of
not less than fourteen years of age.

580. The School Commissioners of said Allegany County shall have
full power to appoint and fix the salaries of such teachers for such night
schools and shall have power to make such regulations as they may deem

581. No such schools shall be opened without the written application
to the trustees of said school of at least thirty (30) persons of the age
required of students in such night schools.

shall make all necessary arrangements at the different schools for supply-

gany County such compensation- and at such times as the School Commis-
