208 ARTICLE 1.

Directors for Allegany County, and if made shall be included among the
costs of the building and repairing of roads in said county.

565. Eight hours shall constitute a day's work for all laborers, work-
men and mechanics who may be employed by or on behalf of the Road
Directors for Allegany County, except in cases of extraordinary emer-
gency which may arise in cases where it may be necessary to work more
than eight hours per calendar day for the protection of property or human
life; provided that in all such cases the laborer, workman or mechanic so
employed and working to exceed eight hours per calendar day shall be paid
on the basis of eight hours constituting a day's work; provided, further,
that the rate of per diem wages paid to laborers, workmen and mechanics
employed directly by the Road Directors for Allegany County shall not
be less than two dollars per diem; provided, further, that not less than
the current rate of per diem wages in the locality where the work is per-
formed shall be paid to laborers, workmen or mechanics employed by con-
tractors or sub-contractors in the execution of any contract or contracts in
any work done for the Road Directors of Allegany County; and said em-
ployee shall be paid by the Road Directors semi-monthly.

566. All contracts hereafter made by or on behalf of the Road Direc-
tors of Allegany County with any person or persons or corporations for
the performance of any work for the said Road Directors of Allegany
County on the said roads of said County, shall be deemed and considered
as made upon the basis of eight hours constituting a day's work, and it
shall be unlawful for any such person or persons or corporations to require
or permit any laborer, workman or mechanic to work more than eight
hours per calendar day in doing such work except in the cases and upon
the conditions provided in Section 565 of this Article.

567. Any officer or agent of the Road Directors of Allegany County,
or the said Board of Road Directors, or any person acting for or under
said Board, or an officer thereof or any contractor or sub-contractor
or other person acting for them, violating any of the provisions of this
sub-section, shall for each and every offense, be fined not less than ten
dollars nor more than fifty dollars for each and every offense, one-half
of such fine to go to the informer, said fines to be collected as other fines
are collected by law.

568. The provisions of Sections 537-542 relating to roads shall em-
brace the whole road system of Allegany County, including the road men-
tioned in Chapter 291 of the Acts of 1878, known as the legislative road.
