200 ARTICLE 1.

12. Cross road, 1/5 of a mile;

13. Bedford road, 3 miles;

14. Williams road from City Limits, 1/2 of a mile.

Said road directors are hereby authorized and empowered to expend
not more than four hundred dollars a year for clerk hire in connection
with such permanent improvements or other road expenditures in Alle-
gany County; and the said road directors shall file monthly reports of
their expenditures of all kinds, duly itemized and sworn to by the chair-
man of the board, with the Clerk of the County Commissioners showing
the expenditures made by said board in the preceding month for road and
other purposes. The road directors shall further publish quarterly in at
least two newspapers published in Allegany County a statement showing
the receipt during the past quarter and the disbursements and the amount
on hand, separating the amount received from the State and county. They
shall further set forth a statement as to the number of miles built, and
where built, during the past quarter, the cost per mile not including
bridges, which shall be set forth separately in such statement and any
other matter which they feel would be of public interest.

The cost of publishing said reports shall be paid by the Road Directors
of Allegany County out of the General Road Fund for said county.

1920, ch. 82.

549. The Road Directors of Allegany County, Maryland, are hereby
empowered to employ as clerk the Clerk to the County Commissioners of
Allegany County, or such other person or persons as they shall deem com-
petent to perform the duties required, and to pay such person or persons,
so employed such sum, not exceeding four hundred dollars a year, as said
Road Directors shall deem advisable.

550. Whenever any person or persons shall desire to improve any road
to an extent beyond that contemplated by the Board of Directors, they may
make application to said Board by petition, setting forth the location of
the road to be improved, the extent and character of the improvement, and
the probable cost thereof; and the said Road Directors and Engineer shall
meet upon the premises and examine the location and the purpose set forth
in the petition; and if said Board of Road Directors shall judge that the
public interest will be promoted thereby, they may direct the expenditure
of an amount not exceeding three hundred dollars per mile for such im-
provements, but the petitioner shall first pay into the treasury of the county
an amount not less than equal to that appropriated by the Road Directors.
All of said money to be then expended for said improvements under the
direction of said Road Directors.
