1906, ch. 493, sec. 4.

524. Every person or corporation applying for a license under the
provisions of this Act shall file with the commissioners herein provided
for a petition for such license, and before granting such license the said
commissioners shall cause notification of said petition to be published
at the cost of the applicant at least once a week for at least three successive
weeks in a newspaper published in said Allegany County.

1906, ch. 493, sec. 5.

525. The petition filed as aforesaid shall contain the name or names
of the applicant or applicants; the name of the grounds upon which the
license is desired; 3d, a definite description of the place wherein such
grounds are located; 4th, the day or days for which such license is desired;
and there shall be annexed to said petition on a certificate signed by at
least twenty-five respectable qualified voters of the election district in
which such grounds are located, praying the commissioners to grant said
license.

190S, ch. 493, sec. 6.

526. In such license the name of the grounds, track or park shall be
stated, and the number of days in which and the months thereof during
which betting, pool selling or book making shall be permitted shall be
specified.

1908, ch. 493, sec. 7.

527. The Commissioners hereinbefore named shall be and they are
hereby authorized and empowered to fill any vacancy or vacancies in their
number caused by death, resignation or otherwise.

1906, ch. 493, sec. 8.

528. If any person or corporation shall conduct or manage any horse
racing, or shall make or sell any book or pool, the result of such racing
without first being duly licensed therefor, as provided in this Act, such
person or corporation shall be liable to the penalties now provided under
the general laws of this State.

RAILWAYS.

1904, ch. 605, sec. 1.

529. That a tax of one per centum be levied annually on the gross
receipts and earnings of all electric railroad companies incorporated by

or under the authority of this State or Allegany County and doing busi-
ness in said Allegany County; and said tax shall be due and payable on
or before the first day of June in each and every year at the places or
to the officers to be hereinafter named in this Act; provided, however, that

until the year 1910 the said electric railroad companies subject to this
Act may deduct from the aforesaid tax of one per centum of their gross
