CARROLL COUNTY. 1833

1900, ch. 58, sec. 3.

341. Any person who shall deface, tear down or destroy any of said
boards or posts maliciously, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon
indictment and conviction, shall be fined a sum not exceeding ten ($10)
dollars, and in default of the payment of said fine and cost of prosecu-
tion, shall be confined in the county jail for a period not exceeding ten
days.

342. The Board of County Commissioners of Carroll County are
authorized and directed to levy for and pay to the sheriff of Carroll
County, annually, in equal monthly payments, the sum of twenty-five
hundred dollars, which sum shall be in full for all claims of said sheriff
against Carroll County or said Board of County Commissioners, for his
care, labor, responsibility and expense in discharging the duties of his
office, including the keeping safe in jail, the prisoners committed to his
custody, the cooking and serving to said prisoners the provisions fur-
nished for them by said Board of County Commissioners, as hereinafter
provided, the necessary washing for said prisoners and keeping the jail
in a cleanly condition; and said Board of County Commissioners shall
not pay said sheriff for any services he may render in the discharge of
his official duties, any further or other compensation, and shall not be in
any way liable for any other fee or compensation whatever, to said sheriff
than as above provided for the discharge of his official duties, except as
follows: For every execution of the sentence of death by said sheriff,
upon any person convicted of a capital offense, they shall pay him the
sum of three hundred dollars; for carrying and conveying any person or
persons under sentence to any State institution or to or from any jail
of any other county, or the jail or station-houses of the City of Baltimore,
or to or from any other place of confinement beyond the limits of Carroll
County, under the sentence or final order of any authoried judicial author-
ity, the said Board of County Commissioners shall pay unto the said
sheriff his actual car fare or actual cost of transportation, together with
the actual car fare or actual costs of transportation of such person or
persons so carried or conveyed to the place or places above mentioned.

343. It shall be the duty of the Sheriff to keep a correct and full state-
ment or schedule of all persons committed to the said jail, showing the
length of time and the offence for which they are committed, and the
name of the officer by whom committed, which statement or schedule, to-
gether with all books, papers and commitments kept by him, pertaining
to pensioners* in the jail, shall, at all times, be open to the inspect on of
