1826 ARTICLE 7.

heretofore vested in the County Commissioners by the public general laws
of this State, and all the liabilities incident thereto, including the right
to sue and be sued in connection therewith, and in addition shall have all
the powers hereinafter enumerated, and all such other and further powers
as may be reasonably implied from the nature of the duties imposed upon
them by this Act. In order to more effectually perform their duties and
carry out the provisions of this Act, they shall designate and fix a certain
day or days in each month when they shall meet and consider all matters
relating to the public roads and bridges of the county, at which meeting
no other business shall be transacted or considered. Separate books shall
be provided by them, in which full minutes of these proceedings shall be
entered, and all records and reports relating to the roads and bridges of
the county.

325. It shall be the duty of said County Commissioners, as soon as
possible after the passage of this Act, to divide the county into road dis-
tricts, the boundaries of which shall correspond, as far as practicable, with
the present election districts thereof. In case any election district is, in
their judgment, too large to be successfully supervised, as hereinafter
provided, they may divide it into ''sub-road districts." Each road district
and sub-road district thereof shall be numbered, and all public roads and
large bridges in the county shall be named, and, as far as possible, the
names by which they are ordinarily known in the neighborhood shall be
given to each. The roads in the county shall be classified into main and
district roads, and the district roads into first-class, second-class, etc.,
according to the amount of travel each receives. They shall have pre-
pared ai road map of the county upon a scale large enough to show all
roads and bridges and the distance between intersections of roads and
prominent points thereon, and the names of each road and bridge, which
map shall be prepared within reasonable time. Whenever a new road,
shall be opened or accepted, or an old road altered or closed, its location
or the fact that it has been altered or closed shall be promptly designated
on said map. Said County Commissioners may at their discretion have
finger boards or sign posts placed at roads, crossings or intersections
designating the distance, to the nearest prominent point.

326. The said County Commissioners shall annually before the first
day of March, except, for the year 1906, when they shall as soon as prac-
ticable after the passage of this Act, aippoint a road commissioner (who
shall be an owner of real estate) for each road district and road sub-district
of the county, who shall hold office for one year (unless removed for cause
by the County Commissioners), and until his successor shall be appointed
and qualify. They shall receive detailed instructions from the County
Commissioners as to the method of their work, the time and manner of
doing the same, and shall make a detailed report in writing to the County
