CARROLL COUNTY. 1809

Lambert to the division between said J. Milton Fritz and said College,
to the northeast corner of the land of said College to point of junctiou
of John C. Buckey, said College and Fritz, then westerly with the lines
between said Buckey and College, and Buckey and Jacob Fromfelter and
others, to the Uniontown Road, then with a straight line west through the
land of Mrs. Sallio Maynard to the garden fence of said Mrs. Maynard,
thence to the said Maynard's outer gate, then with a straight line to the
sycamore tree, the place of beginning; provided, however, that for all
sanitary and police regulations the authority and control of said corpora-
tion shall extend for one-fourth of a mile in every direction beyond the
aforesaid limits.

264. All persons who have resided within the said corporate limits
of said town for twelve months next preceding the election, and who are
qualified to vote for delegates to the General Assembly of Maryland, and
all other persons non-resident of said corporation, but who may be other-
wise so qualified and who own real or personal estate in said town of the
value of at least five hundred dollars, shall, on the first Monday of May
ensuing the passage of this Act, and on the same day and month in each
and every year thereafter, elect by ballot one person for Burgess and five
persons for Commissioners, each of whom shall be at least twenty-five
years of age, and shall have resided in said town at least one year previous
to the day of election, and be the owners of real or personal property, or
both, in his own right in said corporate town, assessed at more than six
hundred dollars.

265. The first election for Burgess and Commissioners under this Act
shall be held by two judges of election, to be appointed by the Board of
County Commissioners of Carroll County or the president of said board,
and all elections for officers thereafter shall be held by one or more judges
of election, who shall be appointed annually by the Burgess and Com-
missioners of said town, and in such manner, at such place, and after
such notice, as by ordinance of the said corporation not inconsistent with
this Act directed.

266. The judges of all elections for officers held under this Act, before
holding any election, shall each make oath in due form of law, or affirm,
before a justice of the peace for said county, that he will fairly and im-
partially act as a judge of such election; and said judges of election shall
keep the polls open from, one o'clock until five o'clock P. M., and shall,
in the presence of such persons who may desire to witness the same imme-
diately thereafter count the ballots, announce the result, and make and
sign a written certificate thereof, which they shall deliver to the clerk of
said town.
