1614 ArTICLE 6.

of their board and appoint a secretary and treasurer, who may be the
same person, a bailiff, and such number of under-bailiffs at any time as
they may deem necessary to properly preserve the peace and good order
of said town, and they may at such time or such other times as they may
deem proper appoint such other officer or employes as they may deem nec-
essary for the interests of said town.

1906, ch. 284, sec. 11.

283. If at any time an election shall not be held for Commissioners
on the day mentioned in Section 276 of this Article, an election may
be held at any time after ten days' notice thereof shall have been given
by the Commissioners or a majority of them, and in case a majority of
the said Commissioners shall become disqualified to act or shall have failed
or shall fail to hold an election for the space of thirty days after the said
fourth Monday in April in any year, then it shall be lawful for any
three or more of the qualified voters in said town to give notice either
by written or printed handbills or by publication in some newspaper
printed in said town, of an election to be held on a certain day at least
ten days from the date of publication or posting of such notice for Com-
missioners of Greensboro, and a majority of the qualified voters present
at the hour fixed by such notice for the commencement of said election
shall select three judges to hold the same.

1906, ch. 284, sec. 12.

284. The president of said Board of Commissioners shall preside at
all meetings, unless prevented by sickness or reasonable cause, and in. his
absence the remaining Commissioners may select a president pro tempore;
he shall sign all by-laws and ordinances of said Board of Commissioners,
and shall countersign all orders, drafts and checks drawn by the secre-
tary or treasurer under the direction o:E said Commissioners.

1906, ch. 284, sec. 13.

285. All officers appointed by the said Commissioners shall be selected
from among the citizens of said town qualified to vote for Commissioners,
and shall before entering upon their duties make oath before said Com-
missioners, or any one of them, or before a justice of the peace or notary
public for Caroline County, that he will well and faithfully perform the
duties of his office as now prescribed or as may hereafter be prescribed
by law or ordinance, to the best of his skill and judgment.

1906, ch. 284, sec. 14.

286. The treasurer shall, within thirty days from the date of his
appointment, and before entering upon the duties of his office, give bond
to the State of Maryland, with surety or sureties, to be approved by said
Commissioners in the penalty of five hundred dollars, or in such penalty
over that amount not exceeding one thousand dollars, as the Commissioners
shall prescribe, conditioned that he will well and faithfully account for all
moneys paid over to him by the bailiff of said corporation, or that may be
