urer shall furnish a bond with personal security, the said County Com-
missioners shall pay unto him for the above named purposes the sum of
three hundred dollars in each of said fiscal years, and no more.

111. The Treasurer of Caroline County shall, upon taking office, be-
ginning with the year 1922 and every four years thereafter, appoint a
Deputy Treasurer who shall hold office for a term of four years, and the
said deputy, so appointed, shall assist the treasurer in the performance of
all the duties of said office iinder the direction and control of said treas-
urer, and said Treasurer for Caroline County shall be liable and respon-
sible for all the acts and conduct of said deputy in the handling of any
books, records or moneys of Caroline County in said office, and the said
Deputy Treasurer shall receive a salary of eight hundred dollars ($800)
per annum.

112. If the person so elected treasurer shall fail to deliver such bond
to the County Commissioners within sixty days from the date of his elec-
tion, the said office shall be deemed vacant; and the County Commis-
sioners, in such case, and also in case of death, resignation or failure to
qualify, of saiid treasurer, shall fill the vacancy by the appointment of
some suitable person to fill said vacancy for the remainder of the term,
who shall make, execute and deliver the bond and take the oath as herein-
before required.

113. They may at any time demand of said treasurer such further
bond, with such further security as in their judgment the interests of the
county may require, 'and may increase the penalty thereof.

114. The said treasurer shall occupy the office of the County Commis-
sioners, and keep the office open for business from ten o'clock in the fore-
noon until three o'clock in the afternoon each day in the week except
Sundays and legal holidays (unless a temporary leave of absence be-
granted by them) ; and saiid treasurer shall receive a salary of one thou-
sand dollars per annum.*

115. The said treasurer shall receive and keep, and pay over accord-
ing to the directions of law or the order of the County Commissioners the
proceeds of all taxes levied in the county, and shall keep full accounts of

duties of his office, with all vouchers relating thereto, and upon the expira-
