BRIDGE AT BACK LANDING.

48. The County Commissioners of Caroline and Dorchester Counties,
acting jointly, are hereby directed and empowered to build a substantial
bridge over said river (Linchester) from Back Landing at a point where
the road from Preston to said river reaches said river to a convenient
and practicable point in Dorchester County, to be determined by the
County Commissioners of Dorchester County; and the said County Com-
missioners of Caroline and Dorchester Counties are hereby directed and
empowered to acquire by inquisition, purchase, gift or otherwise, all the
lands and materials necessary for the construction of the said bridge and
its abutments; the road in Dorchester County to be determined by the
County Commissioners of Dorchester County as to the road in Dorchester
County; and said bridge, when built, shall be maintained and kept in
proper repair by the said counties as a free bridge for the convenience
of public travel; and for the construction thereof, acting jointly, the two
Boards of County Commissioners shall give ont the work by private con-
tract or by sealed bids, after advertisement, to be opened at such place
as may be mutually agreed on between the said two Boards of County
Commissioners, with the right to reject any or all bids.

49. The said bridge and abutments shall be built in the most secure
and substantial manner and shall not be less than eighteen feet wide, with
railing on each side thereof, and not leas than four feet high, and the same
shall be constructed not later than August 11th, 1911.

50. The County Commissioners of Caroline and Dorchester Counties
shall have full control, super vision and management of the construction,
maintenance and operation of said bridge, under such rules and regula-
tions as the two said boards may prescribe.

51. The County Commissioners of Caroline and Dorchester Counties
be and they are hereby directed and empowered to levy on the assessable
property of Caroline and Dorchester Counties such sums of money as may
be necessary to carry out and secure the provisions of this Act, the expense
thereof to be paid and borne, one-half by Caroline County and the remain-
ing one-half by Dorchester County, to be levied at their regular annual
levy.

52. The cost of maintaining the said bridge and keeping it in safe
repair and condition for public travel shall be paid in the same ratio as
in the preceding section: One-half by Caroline County and one-half by
