for each office arranged as before provided shall be placed blank lines with
squares, uniform in size with the squares opposite the printed names of
candidates, equal in number to the number of persons to be elected to the
particular office thereabove designated; so that any voter may indicate in
writing on the said ballot the name of any person other than that already
printed for whom he may desire to vote for any office. And the clerk shall
forthwith cause said ballots to be printed and delivered to the judges of
election, and copies of the same shall be printed upon colored paper, differ-
ent from the paper used for the regular ballot, but identical in form, and
publicly posted and distributed by the clerk not less than two days before
the said date of election, for the information of the voters. All necessary
nominating and election expenses shall be paid by the Mayor and Council-
men of Lonaconing.

389. The male citizens of the age of twenty-one years and upwards,
who have resided within the corporate limits of Lonaconing six months
next preceding the election, and who shall have been registered as herein-
after prescribed, shall on the first Tuesday in May in each and every year,
at such place as the Mayor and Councilmen may designate within the cor-
porate limits, elect one qualified voter of said town to be Mayor of Lona-
coning, who shall hold office for one year and until his successor shall have
qualified; and at the same time shall elect three qualified voters of said
town to be Councilmen for said town, to serve two years, or until. their
respective successors shall have qualified; and both the Mayor and Council-
men shall qualify on or before the fourth Tuesday in May, and shall enter
upon their respective duties on the first Tuesday in June of each year.

390. The Mayor and Councilmen of Lonaconing shall cause to be
maintained a registration of the legal voters of said town, and the regis-
tration heretofore made, shall, together with such additions, changes and
alterations as may be or become necessary, constitute such registration;
said registration shall be made and corrected substantially in the manner
provided in the Code of Public General Laws, title "Elections," subtitle
''Registration," and such registration shall be essential to the right of
voting at any election under this charter, but shall not be conclusive evi-
dence of such right to vote; and said Mayor and Councilmen shall annu-
ally on or before the first Tuesday in April, appoint three persons as offi-
cers of registration who shall sit at the council chamber for two days,
from nine o'clock a. m. to twelve noon, and from one o'clock p. m. to five
p. m., and from seven o'clock p. m. to nine p. m., and the said officers of
registration shall give at least one week's notice by publication in one
or more newspapers, or by handbills, of the time and place of their Bitting
at which all qualified voters as hereinbefore prescribed may register; and
the said officers of registration before entering upon their duties shall take
an oath before some justice of the peace of said town, to permit every
