1068 ARTICLE 4.

every month, certify to the Mayor and Register of the city the amount
due the several bailiffs and criers of their respective courts, and the Mayor
and Register shall pay them accordingly.

373. The City Register shall pay to the crier of the Superior Court
of Baltimore City, the crier of the Baltimore City Court and the crier of
the Court of Common Pleas of Baltimore City the sum of two thousand
dollars per annum in monthly installments of one hundred and sixty-six
and two-thirds dollars at the end of each and every month, as and for
their respective salaries on the certificates of said Clerks of the said
Courts that said criers have performed their duties as criers of said Courts
for the time so certified by said Clerks.

374. The City Register shall pay to the bailiffs respectively of the
Superior Court of Baltimore City, of the Court of Common Pleas of
Baltimore City, of the Baltimore City Court, of the Circuit Court of
Baltimore City, of the Circuit Court No. 2 of Baltimore Citv and of the
Criminal Court of Baltimore City the sum of two thousand five hundred
dollars per annum and to the bailiff assigned to the Jury Judge three
thousand dollars per annum as and for their respective salaries at the
same time and in the same manner as is provided in the preceding section
for the payment of the salaries of the crier of the Superior Court, the
crier of the Baltimore City Court and the crier of the Court of Common
Pleas of Baltimore City. Every bailiff, who after having served not less
than twenty-five preceding consecutive years or shall have become phys-
ically or mentally incapacitated from performing the duties of bailiff
from ailments or accidents not resulting from any own misconduct, shall
be entitled to retirement with a salary of $1,000 per annum, payable as
other bailiffs' salaries are now paid, provided that such retirement shall
be evidenced by a satisfatcory certificate approved by the Supreme Bench
of Baltimore City, directed to the City Register, advising him of the
retirement of the said bailiff, and that said retirement is in accord with

the provisions of this section.

375. The Clerk of the Circuit Court of Baltimore City and the Clerk
of the Circuit Court Number Two of Baltimore City are respectively
authorized and empowered to appoint a night watchman, whose duty shall
be to strictly and vigilantly guard throughout the year, between the hours
of six P. M. and seven A. M., the records and papers deposited in their
respective offices, and who shall be removed in the discretion of the said
clerks, respectively, for neglect or carelessness in the discharge of his
duties, or for other good and sufficient cause.
