1916, ch. 221, sec. 1.
98A. The sum of twelve thousand dollars ($12,000.00) is hereby
appropriated for the purposes of establishing in Southern Maryland,
a plant for the converting and reduction of oyster shells into agricul-
tural lime.

98B. A Board is hereby constituted and appointed to be known as
the "State Agricultural Lime Board," which said Board shall be com-
posed of the "Secretary of the State Board of Agriculture," "The
Director of Farmers' Institutes," "The State Agent of Farmers' Demon-
stration Work" for the time being, and their successors in office to serve
without other compensation than their expenses.
Immediately after the appropriation hereby appropriated shall be-
come effective, the said Board shall organize by electing a President and
a Secretary and other officers necessary and thereupon they shall pro-
ceed to acquire the ground necessary for said plants, and construct the
proper buildings and install proper machinery, and after the said sev-
eral acts shall be performed, they shall employ proper superintendents
and employ proper clerical help, and acquire the shells by purchase or
otherwise necessary for use in the manufacture or grinding of lime
and do all things necessary to properly carry out the spirit and intent
of Sections 98A to 98E.

98C. The said Board shall make report to the Comptroller of the
State Treasury annually of receipts and expenditures, and any excess
over above the expenses, and cost of maintenance of said plants shall be
paid into the Treasury of Maryland.

98D. Said B'oard is hereby directed to sell the lime produced at
said plants only to farmers within the State of Maryland for Agricul-
tural purposes, for cash only, and at a price which will enable them to
pay all expenses and cost of maintenance with a small percentage over
and above the expenses and cost of maintenance to enable them to main-
tain a sinking fund to reimburse the State (if possible), for the appro-
priation hereby made.

98E. The Board hereby created is authorized and directed to in-
struct and encourage farmers all over the State by the distribution of
literature through Farmer's Institutes and etc., in the uses of lime in
its various forms and the benefits to be derived therefrom, and to exert
their good offices in efforts to secure lower freight rates on lime by the
transportation companies throughout the State.*
*Section 7 of the act of 1916, chapter 221, provides for the repeal of all laws
and clauses of laws in conflict with said act of 1916.
