Fraud—Upon Turnpikes.

This section is a prohibition against travelers using a turnpike until
they approach a toll gate, and then going around or avoiding the gate so
as to evade payment. The using of a private road which connects with
a county road cannot be said to be done with an intent to defraud the
turnpike company. Hagerstown Turnpike Co. v. Evers, 130 Md. 19.
Fraud—Wood Alcohol.

The contention in a civil suit that the defendants had violated this sec-
tion, overruled where there was no evidence that they mixed, made, manu-
factured or compounded the whiskey sold the plaintiff, or that they intro-
duced wood alcohol into it. Flaccomio v. Eysink, 129 Md. 380.

229A. No person or corporation engaged in the business of building
greenhouse structures, selling fertilizers, insecticides, coal, soil, flower
pots, trees, shrubs, bulbs, plants, garden and farm implements, seeds
or any other commodities, necessary for the formation and maintenance
of public parks and grounds, cemeteries, baseball and athletic club
grounds, golf club grounds, country club grounds, hotel grounds, and
country estates, shall pay or cause to be paid, either directly or indi-
rectly to any superintendent, manager, gardener, foreman, or other
employee, money or other consideration, whatsoever as a present, reward,
inducement, bonus or commission on any bill of purchase, of the fore-
