SEC. 40 J. That in addition to the bailiff and deputy bailiffs
which may be appointed by said Council, the Mayor of the
town may in cases of emergency appoint such special bailiff
for such periods not exceeding thirty (30) days as he may deem
necessary.

SEC. 2. That all acts and parts of acts inconsistent with
the provisions of this act be and the same are hereby repealed.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 553.

AN ACT to declare the sanction and consent of the General
Assembly of Maryland to sundry gifts and bequests contained
in the last will and testament of Elizabeth Switzer, late of
Carroll county, in the State of Maryland, deceased.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sanction and consent of the General Assembly
of Maryland be and the same is hereby declared, given and
granted to the following gifts and bequests contained in the
last will and testament of Elizabeth Switzer, late of Carroll
county, in the State of Maryland, deceased, as hereinafter set
forth: (a) To the gifts and bequests of two hundred dollars
($200) ; and of three hundred dollars ($300) ; and of five hun-
dred dollars ($500); each made and given to the German
Baptist Brethern of Pipe Creek of Carroll County, Maryland;
and (b) To the gift and bequest of the sum one thousand dol-
lars ($1,000) to the Home and Foreign General Missions of
the German Baptist Brethern Church in America; and (c) To
the gift and bequest of the residue of the personal estate of
said Elizabeth Switzer, deceased, amounting to the sum of five
thousand seven hundred and seven dollars and eleven cents
($5,707.11) to the German Baptist Brethern's College, at
Union Bridge, Carroll county, Maryland, whose corporate name
has been lately changed to "The Blue Ridge College."

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
