PHILLIPS LEE GOLDSBOROUGH, GOVERNOR. 425

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the clerk shall receive nom-
inations for any elective office of said corporation of Lonaconing
at any time not less than ten days preceding the date of elec-
tion; said nominations shall be in the form of a petition signed
by not less than two per cent, of the voters registered at the
election next immediately preceding; and should there be no
nominations so filed before the clerk for any elective office, then
the time allowed for filing applications for such office shall be
extended until four days prior to the date of election aforesaid;
and the clerk shall thereupon prepare the ballot in form sim-
ilar to the ballot used in election of the General Assembly. The
names of candidates for each office shall be arranged alphabeti-
cally according to their surname, under the designation of the
office. Above the names of the candidates for each office and
upon a separate line immediately underneath the designation
of the office there shall be printed an appropriate direction to
the voter, informing him of the number of persons for whom
he may lawfully vote for the particular office mentioned imme-
diately above each said direction, thus, "Vote for one," or
''Vote for three," as the case may be. Ballots shall be so
printed as to give each voter a clear opportunity to designate
by a cross (X) in a square at the right of the name of each
candidate, his choice of candidate. After each group of names
of candidates for each office arranged as before provided shall
be placed blank lines with squares, uniform in size with the
squares opposite the printed names of candidates, equal in
number to the number of persons to be elected to the particular
office thereabove designated; so that any voter may indicate in
writing on the said ballot the name of any person other than
that already printed for whom he may desire to vote for any
office. And the clerk shall forthwith cause said ballots to be
printed and delivered to the judges of election, and copies of the
same shall be printed upon colored paper, different from the
paper used for the regular ballot, but identical in form, and
publicly posted and distributed by the clerk not less than two
days before the said date of election, for the information of the
voters. All necessary nominating and election expenses shall
be paid by the Mayor and Councilmen of Lonaconing.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the male citizens of the
age of twenty-one years and upwards, who have resided within
the corporate limits of Lonaconing six months next preceding
the election, and who shall have been registered as hereinafter
prescribed, shall on the first Tuesday in May in each and every
year, at such place as the Mayor and Councilmen may desig-
nate within the corporate limits, elect one qualified voter of
