erection of an elevator or elevators in the State Annex Build-
ing, which said elevator or elevators the said Board of Public
Works are hereby authorized and directed to construct and erect
as soon as may be practicable.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 88.
AN ACT providing for the purchase by the State of Maryland
of certain copies of the Annotated Code of the Public Civil
Laws of Maryland and for the distribution thereof, and mak-
ing an appropriation therefor.
WHEREAS, By Act of the General Assembly of 1912, the Anno-
tated Code of the Public Civil Laws of Maryland, edited by
George P. Bagby, has been legalized and directed to be
deemed as, and taken to be, evidence of the statute law of
Maryland in all the courts of the State, before all the justice
of the peace of the State and by all the public officials of the
State,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the State Librarian be and she is hereby authorized
and directed to subscribe to five hundred (500) copies of the
Annotated Code of the Public Civil Laws of Maryland for the
use of the State.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That upon the delivery of said
five hundred (500) copies of the Annotated Code of the Public
Civil Laws of Maryland to the State Librarian, she shall certify
the fact of, such delivery to the Comptroller of the Treasury,
who is thereupon authorized and directed to issue his warrant
on the State Treasurer for the sum of ten thousand dollars
($10,000), or so much thereof as may be necessary, to the order
of the editor of said code, in payment therefor; and that said
sum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) or so much thereof as
may be necessary; be and the same is hereby appropriated to pay
for said copies of said code.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the State Librarian
shall distribute said copies of the Annotated Code of the Public
Civil Laws of Maryland, as follows: One copy to each of the
