PHILLIPS LEE GOLDSBOROUGH, ESQ., GOVERNOR. 1459

P. L. L. 1888, art. 16, sec. 142.

409. The citizens of said town, having resided therein six
months previous thereto shall annually elect on the first Mon-
day in May, five commissioners of Poolesville, to serve for
one year, or until their successors shall be elected and qualified.
The commissioners must be substantial citizens, resident in said
corporate limits, and must have resided therein for at least
six months next preceding their election; must be owners of
real estate within said corporate limits, and must continue to
reside within said corporate limits during their term of office.
They shall receive no pay for their services, except the presi-
dent, who shall receive the fees hereinafter allowed.

410. The five commissioners elected shall choose one of their
number president; and all vacancies in their number shall be
filled by an election, held after ten days' notice given by the
remaining commissioners.

411. They shall meet in some convenient place in said
town, on or before the first Monday in June next succeeding
their appointment, and as" often thereafter as may be neces-
sary, to discharge the duties of their office.

412. They shall annually, on or before the first Monday in
April, appoint three judges of election, who shall conduct the
election according to the election laws of the State, except
that the polls shall be open at two o'clock P. M. and closed at
seven o'clock P. M.; and the judges and clerk shall make their
returns to the commissioners, but shall receive no compensation
for their services.

413. They shall annually appoint a clerk, who shall keep
the minutes of their proceedings in a well-bound book, which
shall be open to the inspection of all persons interested therein,
and shall perform such other duties as the commissioners may
assign him.

414. They shall annually appoint a chief bailiff, and such
number of under-bailiffs as they may deem necessary.

415. They shall allow their chief clerk, chief bailiff and
under-bailiff or bailiffs, such compensation as they shall think
proper.
