1332 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [Ch. 790]

P.L.L. (1888), sec. 17.

17. All debts collected or property received under the two
preceding sections shall be applied to the support of the
person whose they are, and if he shall leave the almshouse
with the consent of the trustees, any part thereof remaining
unapplied shall be restored to him.

18. Upon complaint being made to any justice of the peace
for said county, and upon his being satisfied, upon hearing
the party, that the complaint is well founded, and that the
party charged, from his disorderly conduct, gives disturbance
to a neighborhood, and is likely to become chargeable to the
county, he may commit such disorderly person to the said
workhouse for any time not exceeding three months, unless he
shall find security, in the discretion of the justice, in any sum
not exceeding twenty-five dollars, for his good behavior dur-
ing six months.

19. Upon complaint and due proof made by the overseer
to any one trustee of the almshouse, that any person in said
almshouse has behaved in a disorderly manner, or has refused
or neglected to obey any of the rules and by-laws of said cor-
poration, he may order such moderate and proper correction,
not exceeding fifteen lashes for any one offense, to be given
to such offender as the nature of the case may require.

20. Any of the trustees may, in writing, direct what poor
shall be received into said almshouse.

P.L.L. (1888), sec. 21.

21. Any justice of the peace for said county, or any person
authorized by him, may apprehend or cause to be apprehended
and committed to said workhouse, any vagrants, vagabonds,
beggars and other idle, dissolute and disorderly persons found
loitering or residing in said county, who follow no labor,
trade or occupation, and have no visible means of subsistence,
there to be kept at hard labor for any time not exceeding
three months.

22. If any person shall sell or dispose of any strong liquor,
or other matter or thing to, or purchase anything from any
inmate of said almshouse, he shall forfeit the sum of twenty-
five dollars.

23. All sheriffs, constables and other officers shall aid the
said trustees and the officers employed by them, in the dis-
charge of their respective duties.

24. If any person shall be sued or prosecuted for anything
done by him in pursuance of this sub-title of this article, or
