PHILLIPS LEE GOLDSBOROUGH, ESQ., GOVERNOR. 1227

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Board of School Commissioners of Prince
George's County, Maryland, be and they are hereby constituted
a building committee for the purpose of erecting and furnishing
an addition to the present public school house to be purchased
for said purpose; and for the further purposes of erecting and
furnishing a public school house at Riverdale in Prince George's
county, upon the site of the present school house at Riverdale,
or upon another site to be purchased by the said commission
for the said purpose; said school houses to be erected for the use
of the pupils of Prince George's county free from any charge
for instruction therein whatsoever.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said building committee
be and they are hereby authorized to purchase- an addition to
the present lot owned by Prince George's county and occupied
by the public school house at Brentwood in said county (if in
their judgment such additional lot is necessary) and to pur-
chase a new lot in Riverdale, Prince George's county, and to
sell the lot at present owned by Prince George's county and
occupied by the public school in said Riverdale (if in their
judgment such purchase and sale are necessary and desirable);
and to procure and adopt plans and specifications for the erec-
tion of an addition to the said public school house at Brent-
wood, and for the erection of a public school house at River-
dale, and when said plans shall have been adopted, said com-
mission shall invite sealed proposals by advertisements for a
reasonable time for the erection of said school buildings, which
proposals shall be sent in sealed envelopes in care of the school
superintendent of Prince George's county addressed to said
commission, and shall be publicly opened on a day at the hour
named in said advertisements; said proposals setting forth the
.amount of money for which the parties proposing will complete
the one or both of the buildings according to the specifications
and plans, and the time or times at which payment therefor
shall be made, and the time when said building shall be com-
pleted; and the said building commission shall award the con-
tract to the lowest responsible bidder upon such bidder giving
bond to the Board of County School Commissioners in such
penalty as said commission shall determine, conditioned for
the faithful performance of the contract or contracts entered
into. The building commission is hereby authorized to employ
one or more competent architects, under whose control and
supervision, as to material and workmanship, such building shall
be erected; the building commission shall also select proper
furniture for the use of said public school house, as well as
