Employment
Wholesale and Retail Trade, Government Services, and Manufacturing (primary metal products, food and
kindred products, electrical machinery, printing and publishing, machinery, transportation equipment, apparel
and other textile products) are the leading areas of employment in the State of Maryland. In contrast to the
nation as a whole, more people in Maryland are employed in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Government, and
Services than in Manufacturing as shown in the following table depicting the percentage Distribution of
