THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND:

In compliance with the provisions of Section 9 of Article 19 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland, I submit herewith a report of the
fiscal activities of the State for the year ended June 30, 1954:

The following is a summarized version of the important items
which represent the State's fiscal condition at the close of the year:

The Cash Balance was........................................ $37,175,665.54

The General Fund Surplus was.......................... 6,004,533.33

The budget for the fiscal year ending

June 30, 1955 appropriates $3,808,598.00 of

that surplus for budget balancing, and

transfers $950,000.00 to the Annuity Bond

Fund, leaving as free surplus at the begin-
ning of the new fiscal year the sum of

$1,245,935.33.

The Receipts for the fiscal year 1954 were as
follows:

Special Funds...................... 113,985,353.83

Federal Funds...................... 17,836,852.81

Loan and Miscellaneous

Funds................................ 149,688,206.24

Total.............................................. $378,724,238.41

The Disbursements for the fiscal year 1954
were as follows:

Special Funds...................... 107,555,696.92
