68 REPORT OF THE COMPTROLLER OF THE TREASURY

STATEMENT "Y"

YEARLY REPORT OF THE CHIEF INSPECTOR OF
STATE LICENSES

October 1st, 1933, to September 30, 1934

Baltimore, Md

October 1st, 1934
HONORABLE WILLIAM S. GORDY, JR,

Comptroller of the Treasury,
Annapolis, Maryland.
Honorable Sir:

I herewith submit the following report of the License Inspectors of the
State of Maryland for the fiscal year beginning October 1st, 1933, and
ending October 1st, 1934.

The total result of the inspection of licenses over the State of Maryland
for the year 1933-34 amounted to $71,20665 Of this amount $36,171.42
was reported in Baltimore City, which included a penalty of $8,109 37. In
the counties $35,035 23 was reported, which included a penalty of $6,433.75,
and the total amount of penalty collected over the State was $14,543.12.

Previous to 1929 the annual license fee for a garage containing "Not
more than 1600 square feet" was $15.00. In amending the garage license
law at that time to include individual garages, (which law was later found
to be unconstitutional by the Court) this particular license fee was m error
left at $5 00 per annum. I recommend that this particular license fee be
again placed at $15 00 per annum, and also a change be made in the
present Hawkers' and Peddlers' license law. I also feel that if all holders
of State licenses were compelled to post them in a conspicious place it
would greatly facilitate the work of the License Inspectors.

Every county in the State has been visited by an Inspector during the
past fiscal year The following is a list of the different kind of licenses
found to be necessary by the State License Inspectors m Baltimore City and
the Counties, and which had not been secured
