The amount of interest paid on such taxes in arrears, was
$80.82. There is quite a considerable sum still due on this
account, and unpaid for the current year, upon which inter-
est will be charged after 1st January, 1878.
STATE TOBACCO INSPECTIONS.
The receipts and expenditures on account of the State
Tobacco Inspections, as returned by the several inspectors,
are given in detail in table "No. 8."
The gross receipts at the several warehouses, during the
fiscal year, were $109,477.85.
The expenditures during the fiscal year, exclusive of the
salaries of the Inspectors and Supervisor, were $102,226.39,
leaving a balance of $7,251.46, which added to the amount
duo from Inspectors, 30th September, 1876, and paid into
the Treasury during the fiscal year, viz : $9,433.90 ; makes
a total balance of $16,685.36.
The salaries of the Inspectors and Supervisor for the year,
were $15,000.00, leaving the net amount of receipts over
all expenditures for the year, $1,685.36.
MISCELLANEOUS RECEIPTS.
Table "No. 9," shows receipts from sundry officers, dur-
ing the fiscal year, amounting to $26,788.41.
Of this total, the Land Office paid $1,705.95. The State
Hay Scales $1,625.90. State Live Stock Scales $13,446.03.
State Wharfinger $4,055.15, and the Weighers of Grain
$5,956.33.
INTEREST ON ACCOUNTS.
Table "No. 10," shows the amounts paid on the accounts
of sundry officers, therein named, aggregating the sum of
$14,823.92.
TAXES ON PROTESTS.
The revenue from Taxes on Protests, during the fiscal
year, paid by the different Notaries Public, amounted to
$7,649.00, and is detailed in Table "No. 11."
By the Act of 1864, Chapter 137, Notaries in the counties
were required to pay into the Treasury, one-half the amount
of fees received for protests in any one year, exceeding three
hundred dollars, and in the City of Baltimore one-half the
