RESOLUTIONS.

in Talbot county, and for placing Buoys on the Sugar
|
 
|
Loaf and Jamaica Shoals, in the Great Choptank Riv-
|
 
|
er, as may be selected by the proper officers of the
|
 
|
United States, and upon the completion of those erec-
|
 
|
tions, to recommend the light vessels now stationed in
|
 
|
Hooper's Straights to be transferred to some suitable
|
 
|
station near the southern extremity of Tangier Island
|
 
|
in the Chesapeake Bay, or to the seven feet knowl, near
|
 
|
the mouth of the Patapsco river.
|
 
|
Further resolved, That his Excellency, the Gov-
|
 
|
ernor, be requested to communicate a copy of the
|
 
|
aforegoing preamble and resolution, to each of the
|
 
|
Senators and Representatives of this State, in the
|
 
|
Congress of the United States.

Resolution relative to removing obstructions in the
|
 
|
Susquehanna River.
|
 
|
WHEREAS, the trade of the Susquehanna, at all times
|
 
|
important to the States of New York, Pennsylvania and
|
 
|
Maryland, has become more so by the near approach
|
 
|
of the period when the Pennsylvania Canal will be
|
 
|
completed down the Susquehanna to tide water; and
|
 
|
whereas, the interests of the people of tho.se States
|
 
|
would be greatly promoted in facilitating the approach
|
 
|
of sea vessels, to the mouth of the Susquehanna; and
|
 
|
whereas, obstructions exist in the channel near the
|
 
|
town of Havre de Grace, which renders it difficult for
|
 
|
vessels of large burthen to approach and depart, the
|
 
|
removal of such obstructions would greatly promote
|
 
|
the commerce of the said river, and of the people of the
|
 
|
said States; and whereas, it is desirable to obtain the
|
 
|
aid of Congress in removing said obstructions, and to
|
 
|
procure the co-operation of the States of New York and
|
 
|
Pennsylvania in accomplishing this object: — Therefore,
|
 
|
Resolved by the General Assemlly of Maryland, That
|
 
|
our Senators and Representatives in Congress be, and
|
 
|
they are hereby requested to cause to be made by the
|
 
|
Government of the United States, a survey of the chan-
