LAWS OF MARYLAND.

 

slaves for life, to introduce the same into this State;

CHAP. 62.

Proviso

Provided, such citizen shall comply in all respects with

 

the requisites of the act to which this is a supplement.

Oath and record

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in every case of

required

gift, as authorised by this act, that the donor shall make

 

the same known in writing, upon oath, that the said

 

gift is bona fide made, which instrument of writing

 

shall be filed with the Clerk of the county in which the

 

said property may be received, and by the Clerk to be

 

made a matter of record; and no slave, or their de-

 

scendants, introduced into Maryland by virtue of the

Manumission of such slaves pro-

provisions of this act, shall be manumitted or become

hibited Unless, &c.

free in this State, unless the person so manumitting

 

him or her, shall furnish sufficient means, and cause

 

him or her to be removed from this State, as required

 

by the existing laws of this State.

 

CHAPTER 62.

Passed Feb. 12,1838

An act to authorise the appointment of Commissioners, and

 

the division of Charles county into School Districts.

Orphans court appoint commiss-

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Maryland, That it shall be the duty of the Orphans'

 

Court of Charles county, at their next April session, or

 

as soon thereafter as may be convenient, to appoint

 

three discreet and suitable persons in each election

 

district in Charles county, to act as Commissioners,

 

whose duty it shall be, or a majority of them, to as-

 

semble in their respective election districts at some

 

convenient place, on or before the first Monday in

 

August next, and proceed to divide their respective

election districts into a suitable and convenient number

 

of school districts, having reference to the roads,

 

creeks, and so forth, as their boundaries; it shall he

 

the further duty of the Commissioners aforesaid, imme-

 

diately after the formation of said school districts in
