CHAP. 307.

the stockholders at a general meeting which they shall have power to call for that purpose.

Reservation of power to tax

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act

 

contained shall he construed to restrict the right of

 

the Legislature to impose and levy from time to time,

 

and at all times hereafter such tax as the General As-

 

sembly shall deem proper by license or otherwise, on

 

the estate, funds, and property in which the capital

 

stock of said company hereby incorporated, shall be

 

invested in common with similar property, funds or

 

estate of any other company, corporation or individu-

 

al of this State.

In force till 1866

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That this act shall con-

 

tinue in force until the year eighteen hundred and six-

 

ty-six, and until the cud of the next .session of the Gen-

 

eral Assembly as may happen thereafter.

An act relating to pensions ly county assessment.

Preamble

WHEREAS, much of the time of the Legislature is

 

occupied in considering applications from indigent per-

 

sons in the several counties in this State, and in the

 

passage of laws for their relief, which might be saved

 

by vesting in the several levy courts or boards of com-

 

missioners, as the case may be, in the several counties,

 

full power to receive such applications and grant the

 

necessary and appropriate relief: — Therefore,
