LAWS OF MARYLAND

 

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That if any clerk of the

CHAP. 298. Liability of officer;

market, or any other person or officer appointed by or

 

under the authority of the Mayor and City Council of

 

Baltimore, shall at any time hereafter demand, receive,

 

or collect, or attempt to demand, receive, or collect

 

any tax or other charges, from any person or persons

 

attending the Baltimore markets as hereinbefore pro-

 

vided or which may hereafter be provided, who shall

 

he standing in the open streets, and who do not occu-

 

py any place or stand in someone of the market hous-

 

es in the city of Baltimore as aforesaid; such officer

 

or other person acting as aforesaid, shall he liable

Fine $20

each and every of them to a fine of twenty dollars, for

 

each and every offence to be recovered before any jus-

 

tice of the peace as small debts are now by law recov-

 

ered, one half of said penalty to belong to the infor-

 

mer, and the other half to the State; any law custom

 

or usage to the contrary notwithstanding.

 

CHAPTER 298.

Passed Mar 28.1836

An act to Incorporate the Eastern Bank of Baltimore.

Condition of incor-

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Maryland, That if the president and directors of the

 

Fell's Point Saving Institution of Baltimore, shall on

 

or before the first Monday of January next, pass and

 

file with the Governor and Council of Maryland, a

 

resolution authorised at a general meeting of the mem-

 

bers of said Institution, and under the common seal of

Acceptance

said Instituion, declaring its acceptance of this act,

 

and shall also file with said resolution, a statement

 

of its affairs, shewing that it had fulfilled all of its

 

obligations, and is free from debt: the estate of the

Charter changed

said institution, shall become the property, and at its

 

actual cash value shall be deemed part of the capital

 

of the Eastern Bank of Baltimore, hereby incorpo-

 

rated, or intended so to be; and for the sum of said

 

value, as nearly as may be, shares of stock in the

 

said hank shall vest in and be allotted to the proprie-

 

tors of the said Institution, severally and ratea-
