SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That the clerk of Mont-

An act relating to the Baltimore, Markets.

Passed Mar,31, 1831

WHEREAS, it has been represented to this General

Preamble

Assembly, by the memorial of sundry citizens of this

 

State, that the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore,

 

have passed an ordinance imposing a tax of twelve

 

and a half cents, upon each and every person who at-

 

tend the Baltimore Markets, with produce or articles

 

of any description from the county, to vend in said

 

markets, without regard to the value of the .pro-

 

duce or articles, so offered for sale as aforesaid, and

 

whereas the said tax is deemed to be unequal, unjust

 

and oppressive: — Therefore,

 

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assenibly of

Prohibited to tax certain persons

Maryland, That from and after the passage of this

 

act, that no charge, tax, fee or fees shall he set, rated

 

or levied upon any person, or the property of any per-

 

son who shall attend any of the Baltimore Markets,

 

with any articles or produce from the country, to vend

 

in said markets of their own growth, produce or

 

manufacture, or as the agent of the grower, producer

 

or manufacturers of the same, provided such person

. or agent, be not a resident of the city of Baltimore,

 

unless such person or persons shall occupy some place

 

or stand, in some one of the market houses erected by
