CHAP. 251

intents and purposes, as if the same had been duly

 

acknowledged by the said Ann, separate and apart

 

from, and out of the hearing of her said husband, and

 

as if the Justices of the Peace before whom the ac-

 

knowledgment was taken, had taken said acknowledg-

 

ment and certified the same, in the manner then re-

 

quired by law in reference to a feme covert grantor.

 

CHAPTER 251.

Passed Mar. 25 1831

A supplement to an act, entitled, an act to Incorporate

 

the Maryland Mining Company.

Preamble

WHEREAS, the developement of the mineral resour-

 

ces of this State is of great importance to the commu-

 

nity, calculated to encourage the industry and enter-

 

prize of its people, and to increase the revenue of the

 

public works; — Therefore.

Capital increased to one million

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

 

Maryland, That the capital of the Maryland Mining

 

Company, shall and may be increased to one million

 

of dollars, to be divided into shares of five hundred

 

dollars each, and that certificates therefor shall be is-

 

sued to the stockholders in place of those heretofore

provided for, and that one fourth part of the capital

 

stock of said company, or two hundred and fifty thou-

 

sand dollars, shall be applied by the president and di-

 

rectors to the working of the mines of the said company,

 

and the construction of the rail road hereinafter autho-

 

rised to be made.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the land which it

 

shall be lawful for the Maryland Mining company to

 

purchase or hold, shall not exceed five thousand acres,

 

including the territory at present possessed by the said

 

company, and it shall not be lawful for the said com-

 

pany to hold any land without the limits of Allegany

 

county.
