CHAP. 96

be able to sue and be sued, implead and be impleaded.

 

in any court of law or equity in this State or else-

 

where, and to make and have a common seal, and the

 

same to break, alter or renew at their pleasure, and

 

also to ordain and establish such by-laws and ordinan-

 

ces as shall appear necessary for regulating the tem-

 

poral concerns of the said Church, and for promoting

 

religion within the same, not being repugnant to this

 

act, nor to the laws of this State.

Authorised to re-ceive deed, &c.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That the said trustees as

 

a body corporate are hereby declared competent in law

 

to receive a deed from Samuel S. Baggs, for the lot or

 

parcel of land whereon Curtis' Chapel is situated, and

 

its appurtenances, Provided, the land thus conveyed

 

shall not exceed five acres; and provided also, said deed

 

shall be duly executed and registered according to law.

 

CHAPTER 96.

Passed Mar,4, 1836

An act for the extension of Caroline street, in the city of

 

Baltimore.

Extension authori-sed and defined

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

 

Maryland, That the Mayor and City Council of Bal-

 

timore, be and is hereby authorised to extend Caroline

 

street in the city of Baltimore, from its present termi-

 

nation southerly, with its present width and according

 

to its present lines, through the north side of Block

 

street to Thames and Philpot streets, or either of them,

 

or to any line northwardly or southwardly of said

 

streets, or either of them, and to condemn as a public

 

highway for such extension the ground in the course

 

thereof; Provided however, that the Mayor and City

 

Council of Baltimore may in the said extension, or any

 

part thereof, authorise such variations from the present

 

lines or direction of Caroline street, as in its judgment

 

the public convenience or the interests and accomoda-

 

tion of proprietors of ground, in the direct course for

 

such extension may require and justify.

Damages, &c.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That to effect said ex-
