An art to authorise the Repair of a Bridge in Baltimore

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assembly,

Preamble.

by the petition of sundry citizens of Baltimore county, that

 

the bridge over the Great Gunpowder Falls, at the place

 

commonly called Merediths Ford, is now in a state of dilap-

 

idation, and requires immediate repairs, or otherwise it will

 

soon be entirely lost to the county, to the great inconvenience

 

of the people — Therefore,
Section I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly oj Ma-

ryland, That the commissioners of Baltimore county be,

 

and they are hereby authorised and directed to assess and

 

levy on the assessable property of said county, such sum of

 

money, not exceeding five hundred dollars, in any one year,

 

as shall be necessary to repair the bridge over the Great

 

Falls of Gunpowder, at Meredith's Ford, so as to put and

 

keep the said bridge in a safe and proper condition for tra-

 

velling over, and the transportation of produce, and to keep

 

the same at all times in sale and proper condition, to pre-

 

vent injury to the inhabitants of said county, and other per-

 

sons passing over the said bridge; and Daniel Fitzhugh

 

Elijah Marsh, and David Powell, shall be commissioners,

with power and authority to employ a person or persons to

 

repair the said bridge, as soon as may be reasonably prac-

 

ticable; and the county commissioners shall pay for such re-

out of the collections, which shall be made in virtue oi this

Sect. 2. And be it enacted. That the commissioners here-
