the city of Baltimore; and it shall also be the duty of
the directors, on the first day of January, and on the
first day of July, in each and every year, to make and
declare a dividend of the interest and profits of the said
society, after paying its expenses, and the same to pay
over unto the depositors, or their legal representatives
within ten days thereafter.

Bank privileges

Sec. 8. And be it enacted. That nothing contained in this
act, shall be held or construed as granting or intending to
grant, any power or powers inconsistent with the pledged
faith of the state, to the existing hanking institutions in the

city of Baltimore, or with the privileges secured to said
banks, by any act or acts of assembly now in force, nor
authorise them to issue any bill, note or other device in
the nature of Bank notes.

Subject to inspec-
tions.

Sec. 9 And be it enacted, That the concerns of the said
society shall be at all times subject to the inspection of the
treasurer of the western shore, or such other officer of the
state as may be selected for that purpose from time to time,
by either branch of the legislature.

Duration limited.
|
Sec. 10. And be it enacted, That this act shall contiue
and be in force until the year eighteen hundred and forty,
five, and the end of the next session of the General Assem-
bly which shall happen thereafter.

An act to Incorporate a Company to improve the Naviga-
tion of Queenstown Creek, in Queen Anne's County.
|
Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, sundry inhabitants of Queen Anne's county,
have by their petition, set forth to this General Assembly,
that the improvement of the navigation of Queenstown
creek, would contribute to the advantage of the citizens of
Queen Anne's county, and the citizens of Baltimore, and
afford also a safe and expeditions communication between
the city of Baltimore and the Eastern Shore, and have
prayed that an act of Assembly may be passed to incorpo-
rate a company for that purpose — Therefore,

open books

Section 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That it shall be lawful to open books for receiving
subscriptions to the amount of ten thousand dollars, in shares
of fifty dollars each, for improving the navigation of Queens-
town creek, under the management of Philip Laurenson and
Edward I. Wilson, in the city of Baltimore, and James Mas-
