1831.

ge's county, be, and they are hereby authorised and em-
powered to sell, either at public or private sale, the jail of
said county, with the ground upon which it stands, together
with so much of the ground belonging to the county adjoin-
ing thereto, as they may think proper, not exceeding in the
whole, one half of an acre of land; and after the purchase
money shall have been paid for the same, the said justices,
or a majority of them, are hereby authorised and directed
to convey the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof,
his or their heirs and assigns, in fee simple.

CHAP. 163.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the nett proceeds of said
sale shall be appliei by the said levy court, to the payment
of the debt contracted by them for the building of a new jail
for said county.

An act to incorporate the Liberty- Town Savings Institution.

Passed Mar. 2, 1832

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That Dr. Richard Dorsey, Elihu H. Rockwell,
Abdiel Unkefer, Joshua Stevenson, Thomas Carr, Daniel
Sweadner, Joseph Poole, Abraham Jones, Thomas War-
field and Richard Simpson, and all and every other person
or persons, hereafter becoming members of the Liberty
Town Savings Institution, in the manner hereinafter men-
tioned, shall be, and are hereby created and made a corpo-
ration and body politic, by the name and style of the Liber-
town Savings Institution, and by that name shall have suc-
cession, and be capable by law, to hold and dispose of pro-
perty, to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, answer
and defend, and be answered and defended, in courts of
law and equity, or in any other place whatever, and to re-
ceive and make all deeds, transfers, contracts, covenants,
conveyances and grants, whatsoever, and to make, have
and use a common seal, and the same to change and renew
at pleasure, and generally, to do every other act or thing
necessary to carry into effect the provisions of this act, and
to promote the object and design of said corporation.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That there shall be a meeting
of the members of the said Liberty-Town Savings Institu-
tion, on such day in the month of April next, and at such
place as the three first named person in this act, or a ma-
jority of them shall appoint and give written notice thereof,
to each member, at least five days previous to said meet-
