LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 169.

nerally, if the bridge over the Patuxent river, called and
known by the name of the Governor's bridge, was rebuilt —
Therefore,

Levy directed.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the justices of the levy court of Prince
Georges county, and the commissioners of Anne Arundel
county, are hereby authorised and required each to assess,
and levy a sum of money not exceeding three hundred dol-
lars, on the assessable property in their respective counties,
at the time of laying their next county rates, together with
the commission for collecting the same; which said asses-
ment shall be made, levied and collected, and paid to the
commissioners appointed by this act, or to their order, as
soon as the same shall become payable by law.

Commissioners
named,— contract.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the following persons
are appointed commissioners for rebuilding said bridge,
known as the Governor's bridge, to wit: on the part of
Prince Georges county, Beall Duvall, and Benjamin E.
Gantt, and OH the part of Anne Arundel county, Thomas
Hodges and Thomas Welsh; and the said commissioners
or a majority of them are authorised and empowered as
soon as may be convenient, to cause the said bridge to be
rebuilt at the present scite of the said bridge, of sound and
good materials, and completed in the best and most substan-
tial manner, and they, or a majority of them, are by this
act fully authorised and empowered to agree with a con-
tractor or contractors for rebuilding said bridge, and the
said bridge shall be rebuilt under the immediate direction
and superintendence of the said commissioners or a majori-
ty of them.

Case of vacancy.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That if either of the commis-
sioners shall die, or remove out of the county in which
he is a commissioner, before the completion of said bridge,
or shall refuse to act, the commissioner who shall have
been appointed to act with him, may appoint some other
person, resident of the county in which he was a commis-
sioner, to act in his place, and the person so appointed shall
have the same powers and authorities as are vested in the
said commissioners by this act.

Bond requird.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the aforesaid commissioners, to cause bond, with approved
security, to be given in double the amount of the contract,
for the true and faithful performance of the work, and for
the insurance of the bridge for ten years.

Return accounts.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That the commissioners afore-
said, or a majority of them, shall render to the proper au-
thorities of their respective counties, at their meeting next
