CHAP. 23.
His compensa-
lon

LAWS OP MARYLAND.
Sec. 5 And be it enacted. That the said clerk of the
levy court of Saint-Mary's county shall receive as a com-
pensation for his services, such sum, annually, as the said
levy court may direct, not exceeding three hundred dol-
lars.

Vacancy, how
to be supplied

Sec. 6. And be it enacted, That in case a vacancy oc-
curs in the office of clerk of the levy court, as created by
this act, in consequence of depth, resignation, disqualifica-
tion, or removal, the same shall be supplied as soon there-
after as may be practicable, in the manner prescribed in
the second section of this act.

Levy court to
meet

Sec. 7. And be it enacted, That the levy court of Saint-
Mary's county be and they are hereby authorised and re-
quired, to meet in Leonard-Town in said county, immedi-
ately after the passage of this act, or as soon thereafter aa
practicable, and then proceed to cause to be made a re-
valuation and re-assessment of the real and personal property
of said county, agreeably to the provisions of an act pass-
ed at November session eighteen hundred and twelve, en-
titled, An act for the revaluation of the real and personal
property of this state.

An Act to incorporate the Union Slate Company.

Preamble

WHEREAS the several persons hereinafter named have
associated and formed a company by the name of The
Union Slate Company, for the purpose of procuring slate
from any quarry or quarries, owned or to be owned by
them, and disposing of or using the same within this state,
or elsewhere, and have applied to this general assembly for
an act of incorporation for that purpose; Therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That William Steuart, John Diffenderffer, Isaac
F. Lightner, William Gwynn, Alexander Fridge, William
M'Donald, Justus Hoppe, Joshua Turner, William Morris
and George Morris as copartners, Peter Sauerwine and
George Sauerwine as copartners, Joseph Boyd, Jr. John
Martin, Thomas Symington, William Henry Steuart, John
Gibson, and Leonard Kimball, their associates, successors
and assigns, shall be and they are hereby incorporated and
created a corporation and body politic, by the name, style
and title, of The Union Slate Company, and by that name
may have perpetual succession, and shall be capable in law
