paying the said money according to this act; and the trea-
surer of the western shore shall apply the money so receiv-
ed agreeably to the provisions of the act, in this section first
mentioned, and in such manner as that all arrearages of com-
pensation shall be paid, and deficiencies therein that may
have accrued, or hereafter shall accrue, in any year, may be
paid out of the excess of receipts of any other year or years,
if there be any such excess.

CHAPTER 160.
An Act to extend the Powers of the Commissioners of
the School Fund in Queen- Anne's County, and to en-
courage the establishment of Free Schools in said
County.

Passed Feb 23,

Section l. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of the school fund for
Queen-Anne's county be, and they are hereby authorized
and directed, to apportion and distribute equally amongst
the several primary school districts in said county, as they
are now laid off and divided, (except the Centreville dis-
trict,) such sum or sums of money as now are, or may be
hereafter placed under their direction by legislative enact-
ment, or which they may from time to time receive for in-
terest or dividends on the funds invested by them, and to
pay the same semi-annually to the trustees of the several
school districts in said county, as is hereinafter directed-
and the said commissioners are hereby authorised and em-
powered, to alter or change any of the said school districts,
whenever in their judgment the interest and convenience

ot the people shall require it; Provided, that any altera-
tion or change which they shall make, or authorise to be
made, shall be set forth in writing, under their hands and
seals, and filed with the clerk of the county, to be record-
ed by him according to law.
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of
the school fund aforesaid, be and they are hereby authoris-
ed and directed, to appoint annually, in the month of
March, three trustees in each of the primary school dis-
tricts in said county, (except as hereinbefore excepted )
who before they shall act as such, shall swear, or affirm, as
