they shall be deemed unreasonable, or injurious in their
operation.

Rates.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the said company shall
be entitled to charge and take for the transportation of any
parcel or article on such rail road, any distance whatever,
twelve and a half cents, and a like sum for taking up and
setting down any person who shall travel a distance not ex-
ceeding eight miles, in addition to the charge of three cents
per mile for the conveyance of such person.

Lateral road.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted. That that the same rights,
privileges and immunities, granted by this act in relation.
to the road from Baltimore to the Ohio river, shall also be-
long to the said company in relation to their lateral road
hereafter to be construcled to Frederick.

An Act to incorporate a Company under the name of
The Jefferson Library Company.

Subscriptions.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Taylor Reynolds, Stephen J. Magraw,
and Thomas Richards, junior, or a majority of them, be
and they are hereby appointed commissioners, at such time
and after such notice as they, or a majority of them, shall
think proper, in the village of the Rising Sun to open
books and receive subscriptions for three hundred shares of
throe dollars each, as the capital stock of the said compa-
ny, to be paid, one half at the time of subscribing, the
other half on the day of election of the managers and di-
rectors hereinafter mentioned.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted,. That so soon as fifty shares.
of the aforesaid stock shall be subscribed for, the said com-
missioners, or a majority of them, shall give notice thereof
by setting up public advertisements throughout the county
of Cecil, and in the village of the Rising Sun, and appoint
a day for the election of five managers and directors, to be
elected by ballot of the stockholders, each stockholder to
be entitled to one vote for every share be shall hold of
said stock.
