Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Persons incor-
Maryland, That the following persons, George Todd, porated.
Levin Mortis, James Morris, John E. Pollilt, Robert Ve-
nables, Handy H. Irving, James Hooper, Levin G. Irving,
Anthony B. Bennett, Washington Bennett, Humphrey
Humphreys, and William Stevens, and their successors to
be elected as hereinafter mentioned, with their minister for
the time being, shall be and hereby are created and de-
clared to be a body pslitic and corporate, by the name,
style and title, of The Committee of the Presbyterian
Church in Salisbury, in Worcester county, and by the
same name shall have perpetual succession, and shall be able
to sue and be sued, implead and be impleaded, in any court
of law or equity in this state or elsewhere, and to make
and have a common seal, and the same to break, alter and
renew at their pleasure, and also ordain and establish such
by-laws and ordinances as shall appear necessary for regu-
lating the temporal concerns of the said church, and for
promoting literature within the same, not being repugnant
to this act and to the laws of this state.
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the successors of the Elections,
said committee of the said church shall be elected in the
following manner, to wit: the members of the .said church,
being twenty-one years of age, contributing towards the
support of the minister officiating therein, may and shall
meet at such place as shall be appointed by said corpora-
tion, sometime during the month of May eighteen hundred
and thirty-one, and sometime during each and every suc-
ceeding May, whereof due notice shall be given by the
president of the said corporation for the time being, at the
said church, and then and there they, or as many as may
attend, shall elect viva voce, not less than five, nor more
than twelve of the members of the said church, and in the
event of a failure by the members of the said church as
uforesaid to elect the said committee as is contemplated by
this act, then and in that case the members last elected
shall continue to be and constitute the said corporation un-
til they shall be superseded by the election of a new com-
mittee.
Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That in case of the death or Vacancies,
resignation of any lay member of the said body corporate,
the remaining members, or a majority of them, shall have
full power and authority, at their next or any subsequent
meeting, to elect another person in his place.
Sec. 4. And be it enacted. That the said corporation, May sell or
the consent and approbation of two-thirds of the lease property.
