CHAPTER 101.
Art Additional Supplement to the act, entitled, An act
to incorporate a Company for the purpose of cutting
and making a Canal between the River Delaware and
the Chesapeake Bay.

Preamble.

WHEREAS the president and directors of the Chesapeake-
and Delaware Canal Company have, by their memorial set
forth, that some time in the month of August eighteen
hundred and twenty-four, they purchased of a certain Tho-
mas Bittle about thirty-six acres of land, lying on Broad
creek and Back creek, in Cecil county, and received from
him a deed therefor, but that doubts are entertained whether
said company were not restrained by the thirteenth sec-
tion of the original act to which this is an additional supple-
ment, to the quantity of one acre, and have prayed for the
passage of a law to remove the same; Therefore,

Proviso

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the title of said Chesapeake and De-
laware Canal Company to the said land so purchased from
the said Thomas Bittle, and by him conveyed to them,
shall be to all intents and purposes as good and available
either at law or in equity, as if the company had not been
restrained by the said thirteenth section; Provided al-
ways that nothing herein contained shall be construed in.
any manner to affect the right of any person or persons
whatsoever.

For what pur-
pose to be
used.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That the said land shall not
be used for any purpose whatever, except for stables, offices
and buildings, essential to the objects for which the said
canal company was incorporated; Provided always, that
nothing in this section shall be so construed as to prevent
said canal company from selling any part of said land
which they may deem unnecessary for the objects for
which said canal company was incorporated.
