The proceedings of Friday were read and corrected.

Mr. Blake presented the petition of George N. Hollins, a
soldier of the War of 1812, asking a pension.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pensions.

Mr. Brattan presented the petition of John E. Stirling and
ninety-three other citizens of Lawson's District, in Somerset
county, praying for a division of said district.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Brattan, Tuck
and Steiner.

Mr. Denson presented the petition of Phoeba Salter, widow
of John Salter, Jane Hill, widow of Samuel Hill, Sarah E.
Jones, widow of Mohlon Jones, asking to be placed on the
pension rolls.

Which were read and severally referred to the Committee on
Pensions.

Mr. Blake presented the petition of Catharine C. Porter,
widow of Thomas Porter, Priscilla Smith, widow of James
Smith, Leah Smyser, widow of Adam Smyser, asking to be
placed on the pension rolls.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on Pensions.

Mr. Denson presented the petition of Rebecca C. Rhodes,
widow of John H. Pihodes, Susan Riddle, widow of John
Riddle, Bilipsy Allen, widow of Lewis Allen, asking pen-
sions.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on Pensions.

Mr. Aydelotte submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the Committee on Finance be, and hereby
are instructed, to inquire into the number of Officers now in
the employ of this body; in what capacity engaged, and the
relative force in each department respectively; and whether
the aid of another officer or officers is required for a proper
and efficient advancement of the business of the Senate; and
if so, to what position the same shall be assigned.

Mr. Fields demanding the yeas and nay s upon the adoption
ot said order,

It was determined in the affirmative as follows :
