time to time, made large appropriations for the support of
St. John's College; and

Whereas, It is represented that there is great confusion
and discrepancy in the accounts of said College, and that to
the end that one of the Faculty should be relieved in the set-
tlement of his accounts, the Visitors and Governors did
mortgage the College and grounps; therefore—

Be it Ordered, That the Secretary of the Board of Visitors,
be and he is hereby directed to furnish a statement of the en-
tire indebtedness of the College—the amount of mortgages
upon said College and grounds, and a copy of the accounts of
any officer or officers of the College who is or has been in de-
fault during the past four years.

Which was adopted.

At 3.30, the Senate took a recess until 4.30, P. M.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON, March 31st, 1874.
The Senate met at 4.30 o'clock, P. M.
Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Blake, Brewer, Brattan, Davis, Earle,
Fields, Longwell, Mudd, McCulloh, Phelps, Stevens, Steiner,
Tuck—14.

The President presented the following communication
from the Executive:

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT,

Annapolis, March 31st, 1874.
Gentlemen of the Senate of Maryland :

I herewith transmit to you a certified copy of the Act of
the Legislature of Virginia, for the settlement by arbitration,
the boundary line between Maryland and Virginia.

The importance of the speedy and amicable adjustment of
this controversy must be obvious to all. I therefore, recom-
mend to you the passage, at the present Session of the Legis-
lature, of an Act of similar character to that of Virginia. In
