ten, Doorkeeper; John D. Johnson, Assistant Doorkeeper;
George H. Davis, Messenger; Wm. H. Pennington, E. B.

The several officers present were then qualified by taking
the oath prescribed by the Constitution.

Mr. Denson submitted the following order :

Ordered, That a Committee of three be appointed by the
Chair, to confer and report upon the names of Ministers suit-
able to officiate as Chaplains in the Senate during the Session.

Which was adopted.

Whereupon, the President appointed Messrs. Denson, Da-
vis and Lloyd as said Committee.

Mr. Walsh submitted the following message :

BY THE SENATE,

January 8th, 1874.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

The Senate has organized by the election of Hon. John
Lee Carroll, President, and the appointment of Augustus
Gassaway, Esq., Secretary. We are now ready to proceed
with the business of the Session, and propose, with the con-
currence of your Honorable Body, the appointment of a Joint
Committee of three members, to wait upon the Governor and
inform him that the Legislature is prepared to receive -any
communication ho may be pleased to make.

We have appointed upon the part of the Senate, Messrs.
Walsh, Longwell and Earle.

By order,

AUGUSTUS GASSAWAY,

Secretary.

Which was read, assented to and went to the House qf Del-
egates.

On motion by Mr. Earle,

Leave was granted to Messrs. Earle, Tuck and Spencer, to
report a bill to amend the charter of the "Baltimore, Chesa-
peake and Delaware Rail Road Company."

Also, leave to the Committee on Judicial Proceedings, (here-
after to be appointed,) to report a bill to so amend the Consti-
